The Marionettes

Hey guys! Long time, I know. But this doesn't mean I haven't been working hard at it. The photo above is from the recent "Marionettes" series I shot with the lovely Dayari Ingram. For the rest of the photos from that shoot, check them out by following the link, below. And while you're at it, if you haven't yet "liked" Desiree Renee Photo on Facebook, what are you waiting for? "Like" as soon as possible for your chance to win a free 1 hour photo shoot with yours truly.

Starbucks

Hello, followers.

I'm currently sitting in the building of my new employer. Well... not... MY store, but I'm sitting in a Starbucks, none the less. I had an interview at 1.30p today, and by 1.35p, I had the job. I'm not going to lie when I say I'm pretty excited to get back into the barista thing. I hated that I had to leave when I worked for Starbucks some five years ago due to relocation. The irony of the whole thing is I was just rehired at the same store I used to work at. None of the staff is the same as when I was last there, not even the managers or supervisors, but other than a few minor changes, it still looks and feels the same. It felt as if I'd never left the minute I walked in. Okay, so it's not amazing money, but it's a job that I can't explain my absolute love for and hours, hours, hours. I'm already scheduled three days this week- two of those shifts are 8.5 hour shifts. Thank the Lord!

It's nice to catch a breath of fresh air amidst all this pollution I'm going through right now.

Update on Life's Chaos

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to write up a quick update. I know I haven't posted any photos for Project 365 and for this I apologize. However I have good reason.

On the evening on January 31st, my purse was stolen right out of my car, out of my yard. It really amazes me the extent that people will go to in order to get a couple bucks out of someone. I've had a lot of time to think these things over- such as how important everything in my purse was to me, and how completely unimportant it was to whoever stole it. Realistically, they probably took anything they could sell or use to take money out of my accounts with, but the rest of it? Well my MAC makeup, my favorite necklaces, my pocket knife I've had for years, my brand new cell phone I'd just received only a month earlier, my older (though in perfect condition) cell phone I was planning on selling, all the business cards I've been collecting over the years of important contacts I needed, my driver's license, my SS card, my work IDs, my comp passes to Universal, my car registration and proof of insurance- I could go on- all of these things are probably laying in a garbage can somewhere (...well... probably not the cell phones...).

Now I'm stuck spending my days making phone calls of cancellation, waiting in long lines at government buildings, and suffering through random bouts of tearful fits- and all for what? Twenty bucks?? That's all they got out of me (as my online banking transaction history told me). Was it worth it? Was it REALLY worth it? And that's the biggest problem I'm having. Of course it wasn't worth it, but there's absolutely nothing I can do. And that's the worst feeling in the world.

So what do I do from here?

I've decided to not allow this situation to completely take me over. If I do that, then the terrorists win (:p). Instead, I wake up each morning with hopes that whoever felt the need to steal something valuable beyond money to me- begins to lead a life of blessing and prosperity. I'm deciding to see this as a fresh start for myself. Out with the old, in with the new. Starting over from scratch. It's not easy, and I'm not saying I'm enjoying any of it, but it's what I've decided to do, and I'm sticking with it. Otherwise, what's the alternative? Well, I'd rather not allow myself to go there, even mentally, so we'll leave it at that.

All this to say, I've had to take a break from Project 365 because of the circumstances, but I will hopefully have everything back to normal by the end- if not mid February. Thanks for your understanding and keep creating because your creativity can't be stolen from you.

Project 365: 28

Roots.

During the photo shoot today, we went to the beautiful Lake Lotus Park in Maitland. This one tree that we shot on had fallen over at some point- which I would assume to be quite some time ago seeing as how the branches were now growing upward towards the skyline. It was a beautiful tree. These were the roots that (uprooted) with it when it fell. Absolutely stunning, I had to steal a pic, even if it was with my crappy camera phone.

Oh- and while you're at it, check out the new design for the website here.

New year, new name...

Welcome to Desiree Renee Photo's official blog! Previously known as Desiree Designs, as the new year came, so did my desire to change the name of my business back to what I originally wanted in the first place. Something more fitting was what I was going for, and I think this time I'll be sticking to it. This is the place where I will be keeping up with the most recent works, random updates, and general rabbit trails about anything and everything having to do with photography. Please feel free to add yourself to my list of followers to keep yourself updated.

I'm pretty excited to see what this new year has in store for me as a freelance photographer. I've got a lot of great concepts floating around in my head, so I've been in the process of setting up some photo shoots. I will definitely keep you updated as they come up. This year has started off with a bang, and I'm pretty much taking the bull by the horns and riding it out for as long as this creative wave is rolling.

I'm doing the Project 365 this year. In case you don't know what that is, it's where you commit to taking at least ONE photo every day for a full year (hence 365). I know some days I will be forcing myself, but I fully plan on it. Some strange part of me just really wants to finish it with as much vigor as I started it. We'll see how it goes, but I'll be posting those photos here, as well. Now that I have an official place for them, that might make it easier to do it each day.

Anyhow, I've got a few more loose ends to tie up as far as getting the new website (still temporary, as I'm waiting on the domain name I want) and setting everything else up with my new facebook page. I'll write more later, but if you're reading this, I really appreciate you making the move with me. Here's to a new year.

Cheers.
